Brand

Tennis balls are made by a number of companies across the world. Well-known brands like HEAD, Wilson, Slazenger, Dunlop, and Penn provide a wide variety of tennis balls to suit different surfaces and levels of game. Choosing a premium brand of tennis ball can have a positive impact as you can trust the quality of the balls.

Color

Unfortunately, tennis balls come in a restricted range of colors. The Tennis Federation has mandated that the standard color be yellow, as I’m sure you already know. This is owing to the fact that it is a color that is easily visible to both players and spectators. However, for kids starting their tennis journey, the balls can be of different color but for a serious tennis player, there is no other option than yellow tennis ball.

Playing Level

Your choice of tennis balls will depend on your playing levels, i.e., beginner, intermediate, or professional. 

Entry Level Players, who do not know much about tennis and are still learning, should choose beginner tennis balls that have slower bounce. Almost all the major tennis ball brands have slower tennis balls. These have lesser durability and are bit cheaper than the professional tennis balls. 

Intermediate Players should choose pressurized tennis balls starting from training balls and advancing to tournament balls.

Court Surface

Type of the court where you are playing will also affect the choice of tennis ball. If you are playing at Clay Court, you must use Regular Duty tennis balls. These balls have lesser felt and hence lesser durability but more predictable bounce to play. 

However, if you are playing at Hard Surface Court then you should use Heavy Duty Tennis balls. These balls have extra felt which improves durability and also control to consistent bounce of ball.

High Altitude

If you are playing at or above 3000 ft altitude, then you need to choose special high-altitude balls developed by various tennis ball producers. Pressurized tennis ball bounce higher and travel faster at high altitude so special balls are require to compensate for the loss in air pressure at these levels.
